That narrowing in diameter reduces the tensile strength of hair, making it weaker and more susceptible to breakage.

Compacted Follicles

The follicles of gray hair are more compacted than in your youth. It makes it more difficult for gray hair to absorb color treatments. Extra time may be needed for a thorough color treatment and hair will lose its color quicker.

Environmental Elements

Factors within the environment can damage locks. Those include UV rays, humidity, wind, and chemicals from a variety of sources. Environmental factors affect the growth rate, overall texture, and density of hair fibers.

The hair changes that occur as you age will necessitate preventative methods to maintain its health and its never too soon to begin mitigating the effects of those changes.

Limit exposure to UV rays, wind and humidity. Always wear a brimmed hat when you go outdoors. Minimize exposure to environmental chemicals, hair care products, and chemical-related hair treatments. Don’t over wash hair, use gentle shampoos and conditioners, and use lower temperatures when drying.
